Haifoss:
WOW. Haifoss is of the most majestic and beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. It literally took our breath away. Google Maps will route you all the way to parking at the falls, but BEWARE, the dirt road (the final 4.5 miles) once you turn left off of Highway 32, is very challenging in a low clearance vehicle. We made it ~1 mile down the dirt road and bottomed out a few times while trying to strategically miss the huge potholes. We finally decided to just pull over, and hike the next 3 miles to Haifoss. We probably could have hitchhiked as we were passed by several SUVs, but it was a beautiful day and we didn’t mind the walk.
Once you arrive, Haifoss is absolutely incredible. It’s one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland and absolutely magnificent.
Seljalandsfoss and Glijufrafoss:
After walking back to the car from Haifoss, the drive to Seljalandsfoss is 1hr 45 min. There’s a main parking lot off of the main road for Seljalandsfoss, and you will see lots of tourists as the falls are right off the main road. There’s a short walking loop around Seljalandsfoss which was pretty to be able to go behind the waterfall. A short walk past Seljalandsfoss is a small cave with a stream coming out of it. You can hike up this stream (waterproof shoes/boots are nice!) to a second, more hidden waterfall called Glijufrafoss. Pretty cool to see a waterfall coming through a cave!
Skogafoss:
Likely one of the most photographed waterfalls in iceland, Skogafoss does not disappoint! Going here towards the end of the day, at sunset, was actually really nice to avoid the normal crowds during the day! It was a short 26 min drive from Seljalandsfoss, and there’s a large parking lot to park. To the right of the falls is a staircase you can climb which will take you to the top of the falls. It was pretty fun to get a birds-eye view, but the view from the bottom is the most dramatic.
Canvas Glamping (near Vik):
After sunset, we wanted to make our way towards Vik, moving further from Reykjavik. We found some really cool canvas glamping (glamorous camping tents/yurts) available on Airbnb which were actually pretty fun!
