Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa
Headlands Coastal Lodge is somewhere we have been excited about going for a long time! Rachel first noticed a photo of the view at Headlands, and how it was literally on the beach at the Oregon Coast, and decided it was a must-stay bucket-list destination.
With the perfect mix of adventure, luxury, and wellness -- no detail was missed, and staying at Headlands met all of our high-expectations and then some! After a year of living on the road and 7 months of those out of Airbnbs… a luxurious coastal retreat was exactly what we needed. We are used to planning every moment of our adventure time during our months on the road, and we wanted to relax a bit and reset. We did the Spring Coastal Reset Experience, and loved every minute of it!
How to Get to Headlands
Headlands sits at Cape Kiwanda directly on the Pacific Ocean in Pacific City, Oregon. Pacific City is an awesome beach town to visit. Headlands is two hours from Portland, Oregon and four and a half hours from Seattle, Washington. Staying at Headlands is worth the trip to the Oregon Coast in itself.
The Room
It’s hard to choose a favorite thing about our stay at Headlands, but if we had to, the room would be it. Every room at Headlands has a view of Haystack Rock emerging out of the ocean! We could look at this view for hours, which we did. Enjoying the sound of the waves crashing while sitting by the heat of the fireplace was an unbelievable experience. Soaking in the large in-room tub is another relaxing spot to soak in the beautiful view. You can even see the waves crash on the beach from the shower… now how many places can you say that about?! We stayed for 3 nights but could have stayed forever.
The Food
The food at Headlands is exceptional! As a part of the Spring Coastal Reset Experience, there were some amazing meals included in our stay.
First, the evening we arrived, we were treated to a wine flight in our room with Oregon Pinot Noir and freshly baked cookies and desserts. We wish we could wine taste with this view, every day!
The culinary highlight for us was the 4-course Northwest Chefs’ Tasting menu for two with Oregon wine pairings. This was such a delicious, local, perfectly paired culinary experience! The main dish with sturgeon was perfectly prepared.
The Experiences
The cool thing about the Spring Coastal Reset Experience is that we did not have to plan anything! Again, after a year on the road, that was much appreciated and felt very necessary. As fellow adventurers know, planning is most of the work, and it’s a total treat when a trip is all planned for you. This experience was the right amount of relaxation, time to chill, and wellness mixed with adventure.
Tidepools Spa & Wellness
We spent quite a bit of time in the spa area of Headlands during our stay. First of all, the hot tub can be booked to enjoy privately, which is amazing! Having that view to ourselves was so serene.
Included in the experience were two 90-minute citrus shea butter body treatments. This was heavenly! It felt so luxurious to get this scrub after a whole year on the road. Not to mention, 90-minutes is the right amount of time to be able to truly relax. We loved it!
Near the spa, in the wellness center, we also were able to have a private yoga class that was included in our experience. Bobbi was our yoga instructor and she was fantastic! Having a private class is something amazing for any skill level. The hands on adjustments and tailoring to a student’s skill level will help anyone learn and enjoy yoga. Our bodies totally needed this after so many hours in the car recently. We were not at our normal yoga fitness-level and Bobbi was very patient. This allowed us to fully relax and also warm our bodies up for a beautiful hike up the dune!
Adventuring
If you know us, you know that all of our trips have to have at least some adventure and time in nature. That’s what was so awesome about this trip - it blended together two types of vacations that don’t normally mix… a luxurious hotel with a nature-inspired wellness adventure. We have to say, there’s no better combination.
After we started one of our days with the private yoga class, Bobbi led us on a hike to the top of the dune at Cape Kiwanda. Headlands gave us binoculars to watch for whales, and hiking poles to make it easier to navigate. Rachel has issues with her knee so that was helpful! We continued the yoga up on the dune, doing a few poses and stretches while taking in the scenery and watching the waves crash below us.
Again, we like a bit of adventure even on the most relaxing of trips. Given that Headlands includes an oyster shucking and mixology class as a part of the experience - this was a perfect way to try something new! Rachel had never tried an oyster before, but after learning about oyster history from Chef John, she was excited to try some of the best oysters in the world. We learned the ins and outs of oyster shucking, which is not as hard as it looks. It was really fun to learn about this part of the coast and feel like a local. The oysters paired amazingly with the negronis that we learned how to mix and shake. Now we need to have people over and treat them to these secrets!
We highly recommend Headlands, as well as the Spring Coastal Reset Experience. Just book it, relax, have fun, indulge and adventure - you won’t regret it!
