Skaftafell / Vatnajokull National Park:
This park is beautiful! There is a very large parking lot (payment required) which gives easy access to hike to Svartifoss Falls. The hike is ~1 mile (1.5 km) from the parking lot and information center and is absolutely beautiful. After hiking to the falls and back down to the visitor center, we booked a Vatnajokull Glacier Walk tour which ended up being really cool! We booked the tour 24 hours in advance (I think itโs generally better to do it further in advance to guarantee a spot).
We did our glacier walk through Icelandic Mountain Guides: Blue Ice Experience. The guides were incredible and it was a fun experience! We highly recommend it.
Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and Diamond Beach:
A 45 minute drive West, took us to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. We tried to time our arrival for sunset and we were not disappointed! The lagoon is on the North side of the road, and you can watch the icebergs float out to the ocean where some will end up on Diamond Beach (just across the road). Make sure to leave enough time to check out both the lagoon and Diamond Beach!
Hofn:
After watching the sun set over Diamond Beach, we continued on to the cute little town of Hofn. We spent the night at the Nyibaer Guesthouse which was very comfortable. Hofn was one of our favorite cities we visited and we found some suprisingly amazing food!! We highly recommend Ishusid Pizzeria Restaurant which we visited before heading to bed. We also had an amazing meal the following day at Otto, a beautiful little restaurant with a pretty interior and amazing entrees and cinnamon rolls!
