They say ‘you don’t go to Iceland for the food’. To our surprise, we had some AMAZING dining experiences in Iceland during our road trip around the Ring Road. Our advice is to save up your money, eat PB&J while you are in between towns, and splurge on a couple of memorable meals. We are foodies who believe food is a big part of the travel experience and we hope you enjoy these recommendations on your Iceland trip!
Otto. Location: Hofn, Iceland. For reference, ~6 hours east of Reykjavik.
This gorgeous nordic-chic restaurant is situated in the oldest house in Höfn (dating from 1897). We ate here after a beautiful sunrise at Vestrahorn. This place is stunning and the food is delicious to match. Don’t miss the fresh local produce or the tasty cinnamon buns!
The taste of these dishes was as amazing as the presentation! Fun fact: we found an amazing book of Icelandic photography and poems we purchased here that still sits in our living room.
Vogafjós Cowshed Café. Location: Lake Myvatn, Iceland. For reference, Northeastern Iceland also ~6 hours from Reykavik.
I will be dreaming of the geysir bread here forever - it cooks deep in the ground nearby via geothermal heat for over 24 hours. We contemplated digging some up for ourselves on our way home but decided against it.
Not only did we see one of the most beautiful sunsets of our lives here, but the local arctic char and the burger were so delicious.
We can attest to the fact that the cows are grass fed as they were eating grass right outside the window as Clark enjoyed his burger!
